Nicky takes an ambulance (with awesome Nurse Lauren Cagen)  from Miami Children’s Hospital MCH to Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center SCCC  everyday for a week for radiation treatments that worked to shrink the mass in his chest by more than 50% and the mass in his neck is gone!! It’s good news for him and my family to know that the tumor is on the retreat!

Chemotherapy started again last night/this morning at 1am – a 24 hour infussion. We pray that the chemo, vitamins & prayers hits the cancer cells HARD. We are hoping to drop the hammer of GOD down on this blood cancer so that he gets back into remission, where he’ll again become a candidate for a bone marrow transplant and then move forward -we pray!!

Nicky’s Condition changed recently in that his cancer has become resistant to his current chemo and a mass came back around his heart, pushing on the lungs, arteries, diaphragm, up thought the left side of his neck and pushing on nerves. Unfortunately unless he goes into complete remission again he won’t be a candidate for a bone marrow transplant. At this point we are trying to see if there is anything left to do to try to get to him into remission. We are trying radiation today and for the next almost two weeks to try to shrink the mass’s  size to give Nicky some pain relief.

As most of you reading this know, my son Nicky Sorbelli has been fighting T-Cell Lympblastic Lymphoma since his diagnosis in May 2015 – his cancer became chemo resistant in late November so they had to switch his treatment to a MUCH harder chemo & soon radiation – leading to a bone marrow transplant. For right now, all the prayers, energy & focus is on getting the blood cancer & mass around his heart to stop growing  & retreat, at which point Nicky will become a candidate for bone marrow transplant. Sorbelli’s need a Christmas Holiday Miracle! Cancer decided to fight harder so we need to fight back harder & asking for prayers & positivity to HELP us defeat Nicky’s Lymphoma! Looking for a bone marrow match donor!

Nicky’s last PET scan showed live cancer activity in his chest where it was originally in the lymph nodes in front of and around his thymus. 

He is getting a blood transfusion (hemoglobin) as I type this.  He is going in for a biopsy to verify the exact diagnosis of what they are still calling T-Lymphoblastic Lymphoma and this would be considered a recurrence as they were pretty sure it was all gone. 

The doctors here at Miami Childrens Hospital have sent all of Nicky’s info to the leading children’s hospitals in the country and four of the top lymphoma doctors in the nation for a review in front of the world’s round table of thinkers in this stuff. 

So far everyone agrees to hit it back with a different chemo that is kept in reserve just in case cancer builds resist endive to the first chemo- which his obviously did.  So far all say to prepare for a bone marrow transplant. So we are looking for a bone marrow match donor!

We have been praying harder that ever and are  asking everyone to buckle down and pray & mediate, please go now before whatever power that you call God, and beg for some positivity & help in Nicky’s direction.

We are heading back to Miami today from our miracle Thanksgiving break to start the last four-six weeks of intense treatment (the hardest and scariest part) then down to once a month chemo infusions for a year and a half and chemo by pill for the next three years after this phase. It not easy but he is winning the war on his cancer and kicking cancers ASS one cell at a time!!! 

We had a great Thanksgiving at home with family and friends and got some much needed rest and recouperation as we are getting ready for the hardest and most intense part of Nicky’s chemotherapy. 

Please keep your fingers crossed and keep sending the prayers and well wishes PLEASE! We are living on prays by the pound right now.

“Miracle Blues From Outer Space” TODAY’S soundtrack for Nicky Sorbelli’s EPIC ASS KICKING of his blood cancer! The Sorbelli family got a holiday miracle yesterday when after Nicky’s chemotherapy we got to leave the Miami Children’s Hospital & come back home because his blood counts were holding up so well & fighting so strong!!! He isn’t scheduled for any more chemo until Dec 14th so a little break is just amazing for him and us right now!
It’s a feeling I can’t explain – I’m so happy! There aren’t any words for the feelings that accompany getting out of the hospital and chemotherapy UNEXPECTEDLY the day before Thanksgivibg! It’s a true holiday miracle and we are very very thankful – it’s perfect! 
As we drive down US1 heading back home – I am getting calls and texts and emails from my music shop in Key West that there was a very special person hanging out and celebrating the holiday on Duval street  Key West – a one and only ROBERT PLANT. Yep that is special and he is probably cool to party with and hang with – but all I can say – and I say with much humility and respect – “MOVE OVER ROBERT PLANT NICKY SORBELLI is coming back to town!!” Robert you & Santa Clause may have to wait in line for the attention this year if Nicky is back in town because he’s the coolest of the cool! 

And Robert his hair was as EPIC as yours back in the day. He’s Lion at heart – a Golden Child God

The heart port was placed in Nicky’s chest via an operation just under the skin but atop the breast muscle. The lines were fished though his main arteries and directly into his heart for chemo infusion- then a lumbar puncture & spinal tap chemo. My hero Nicky Sorbelli

          Nicky Sorbelli, my 10yr old son, the bravest boy I’ve ever met – just had his finger picked to get blood work that showed he qualifies for his chemo today (that means his body can handle the chemo without it killing him) Now he just got his MediPort (heart port) activated (the heart port is a small rubber sphere similar to a super ball with a few IV lines that come off it. The port was placed in Nicky’s chest via a minor operation just under the skin but atop the breast muscle and the lines were fished though the main arteries and directly into his heart.  This is to protect his veins from the ongoing chemo treatment preventing burning and damage during infusions. The port goes directly to the Heart and pumped to entire body quicker and safer. To “activate” the port we put numbing cream on the bumble on his chest. Then the qualified nurse sticks a one inch 20 gauge needle into it then hooks any and all meds directly to the access needle not having to stick Nicky for any thing else during this stay at the hospital. Which is awesome because constant needles and children do NOT go well together.  

After the first chemo infusion Nicky will head down to minor procedures for a lunar puncture (spinal tap chemo)

Once the heart port is activated and the IV lines hooked up, they hang the bags of chemo and medicines and let the infussions begin. 

It’s sit back and wait now.  In between the vicious spells of nasea  we like to play video games, paint with our artist friend Diana De Los Rios, or even play a little ukulele or guitar together. 

I should add that Nicky still does his school work every day and online skype lessons with his teacher almost daily – yes even while in the hospital Nicky WANTS to keep learning. His grades are great and he is moving through the ciriculum at a fast steady determined pace. He is truly my hero on so many levels. I am humbled by my 10 yr old son. Thank you God & Jamie for giving me such a wonderful soul – a wonderful person – my hero Nicky Sorbelli.
